Representing the state of Maryland, Shanel James from Baltimore has been crowned Miss US International 2017 at the conclusion of a pageant held on June 22.
The said pageant has been held simultaneously with the selection of the US representative to Miss Supranational.
Shanel James will now represent the United States at the Miss International 2017 beauty pageant. The finals night of the third longest running international beauty pageant is slated to be held in Japan. James was crowned by last year winner and Miss International 2016 4th runner-up Kaitryana Leinbach.
Placing first runner-up was Frances LeBlanc of Rhode Island while Vaneza Avila of Texas was second runner-up. Tatiana Ruiz of South Carolina and Elizabeth Barker of Louisiana finished third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
The Unites States has been victorious in Miss International thrice. The country won in the years 1974, 1978 and 1982. The current Miss International titleholder is Kylie Verzosa of the Philippines.
